Community Garden Workgroup
Help Us Find a New Community Garden in Southwest Portland!
The West Portland Town Center area of the Southwest Corridor is facing a shortage of accessible community garden spaces. These spaces are especially vital for immigrant, refugee, and low-income communities, who rely on them for growing food, connecting with neighbors, and fostering sustainability.
We are committed to creating an inclusive, accessible garden space that serves the diverse needs of our community. To make this vision a reality, we need your help to identify the right location.
Progress on the West Portland Town Center Community Garden
In 2022, with strong advocacy from the Southwest Corridor Equity Coalition (SWEC), Portland Parks & Recreation dedicated funds to acquire land for a new community garden in the West Portland Town Center. This project addresses the urgent need for accessible green spaces, particularly for immigrant, refugee, and low-income communities.
The garden will provide a space for residents, especially those with limited access to fresh food, to grow healthy and affordable produce. Beyond gardening, it will create opportunities for community connection, education, and environmental sustainability, while increasing resilience to climate change.
In partnership with the West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, HAKI Community Organization, and Unite Oregon, this garden will serve as a vital resource, fostering equity and strengthening the West Portland Town Center community.
